What is YouTube?

It’s pretty simple:  Capture something on video and post it on the internet.

Another way to think about YouTube is this…

Video has been available for so long now that most of society is comfortable with it and has no recollection of what it was like before video even existed.  It’s been said, “Video killed the radio star”.  Television and cinema are a large portion of our way of life and will continue to be a prominent way of disseminating information and with the advent of the internet it will become more and more prevalent.

That’s where YouTube comes in.

YouTube has given the “average person” a way to become a screen writer, director, editor and actor all at once.  The days of having to be famous to be on video are over.  In fact, if you’re not on video you’re not famous, especially since YouTube makes it so easy.  YouTube is an information hub, you can learn to do things, watch your friends and family, or even build your own channel.  Much like what a blog has done for news, YouTube has done for video.

YouTube allows any of us to be creative with video.  Moreover, it gives us the opportunity to share our creativity with the entire world by the click of a mouse.  If you ever wanted anyone to know who you are and what you do YouTube is the place to do it.  This video may give you a quick run down of what YouTube is…
